elaine01-AElaine Berkley is the parent of a child on the autism spectrum. She is an adoptive parent, has been a therapeutic foster parent, and spent two years living in and administering a group home for 14 at risk boys. Elaine has a master's degree in social work and has professionally been active in work with children, adolescents, and families for over 35 years.

She has extensive experience with a wide variety of disabilities and special needs.  During her years of professional experience, Elaine was a school social worker during the initial implementation of IDEA; has successfully administered a family mediation agency; was the National Director of Aid to the Adoption of Special Kids; and was the Executive Director of a major foster care agency for abused and at risk children and teens. As the Executive Director of the local Autism Society of America, Elaine became actively involved in the special needs community in Arizona. Five years ago Elaine founded Frogs Landing, a child and family program for both social/life skills groups and educational advocacy.  Elaine combined her professional social work experience, years of program experience, and her personal joys of parenting.

Elaine continues to be available, by appointment, to offer her personal services as an advocate for families. She has extensive experience in advocacy and understands that it is particularly confusing and stressful to navigate the various federal, state, and local organizations in health, education, and government. Elaine has a strong working understanding of both the content and intent of IDEA. Her expertise is in her ability to look at creative solutions to services for children in the least restrictive school setting. She has had the opportunity to visit and research multitudes of schools, programs, classrooms, and individual plans for children with special needs.

Elaine's style of advocacy is to provide full spectrum services. She completes all of the steps necessary to know each child. This always includes meeting with the family in their home when possible. Parents know their child best and have the right for their goals for their child to not only be heard but implemented. In addition, Elaine may observe one or more times in the classroom, interview teachers, talk with support services, and gather other information that will help her to best support the needs of the child and family. Elaine may also provide professional referrals for testing, therapies, and other needs. In some situations she may also assist families in the DDD process. She provides a full range of advocacy services. If you need a champion for your child, Elaine will be glad to speak with you. You can call her at: (602) 403-4312.
